Aucuba - Gold Dust Plant

Beautiful waxey, variegated foliage. Grows best with afternoon shade. Reaches approximately 10' in height. Zones 7-9.

  Bottlebrush - Japanese

This unique plant takes very little maintenance. Feathery, brush-like spikes form on the thin, wiry stems that arch above the lacy, green leaves below. The light carmine flower clusters have a unique look, giving the appearance of caterpillars perched on branches. Rabbit and insect pest resistant. Zones 4-9.

 
Cestrum aurantiacum "Orange Zest"

Upright, tree-like shrub grows to approximately 4 ft. Clusters of small orange flowers spring through fall. Full sun to light shade. Hardy to 10 degrees.

Cestrum nocturnum "Night Blooming Jasmine"

Growth Habit: Upright Bush ... Mature Height: 8 to 12 feet ... Cold Hardy 15°. Bloom Time: Night Blooming all summer on mature plants ... Growing Temperature: Warm ... Recommended Light: Full sun to partial shade ... Bloom Size: Mint white 3 to 4 inch clusters of fragrant bloom ... Moderate water and is drought tolerant. Needs minimal fertilizer. This plant is grown for the scent. Plant anywhere that you pass by at night or early in the morning.

Cleodendrum Quadriloculare "Shooting Star"

Late winter, early spring blooming  plant with large flower heads, 8-12" in diameter. Each flower is made up of scores of smaller 3-4 inch long flowers bursting from the center. The leaves are green on top, and a strong purple underneath. Full sun to part shade. 10 to 12 ft in height. Zones 9-11, but with mulch and protection on the south side of a structure, it will be safe in zone 8.  Can also be container grown.

Clerodendrum Ugandense...Bleeding Heart Blue Wings

Beautiful blooms resembling butterflies. Light to medium shade, does not like full sun. Can reach up to 10 ft, but easily kept smaller. Zones 8-11, perennial in zone 8, evergreen thereafter.

Lantana Camara "New Gold"

Lantana 'New Gold' has few pest and disease problems. Once established, it grows rapidly, forming a dense mound 12 to 18-inches across. An 18 to 24-inch spacing between plants is recommended. It blooms consistently from April until the first frost and requires no dead-heading. Zones 8-11.

Loropetalum chinense "Plum Delight"

Small pink tassel flowers adorn this plant in early spring. Dark burgandy leaves may turn green during the hottest part of the summer, but will regain their dark color with cooler temps. Height 5-6ft. without being trimmed. Can be trimmed to your desired shape. Zones 7-9.

Nandina Domestica "Dwarf Fire Power"

What makes the Nandina Domestica plant (Heavenly Bamboo) awesome is the color changes all year. In the spring, the new foliage emerges red.  As summer gets under way, the foliage becomes blue green, fading to light green. Clusters of bright green berries replace the flowers. By late summer, the berries will ripen to a bright red. In the fall, the foliage color again begins to change to shades of pink and red, ending the year with bright red leaves and berries.     Zones 6 - 9.

These are introduced as weeping miniature, but I have read stories of people have them around 15 ft growing up a trellis and smothered with beautiful dark red double blooms. Full sun, very hardy. Resistant to black spot, mildew, and rust. Zones 5 to 10.

Ruttya fruticosa 'Orange' ... Rabbits Ears ... Hummingbird Plant

Pretty vining shrub covered with very unusual red to dark orange flowers with brown markings. From the front, the blooms look like rabbits ears. Looking at it from the side, they look like hummingbirds. Approximately 4 ft. in height. Zones 8-11.
